Dr. Chao Mei

Dr. Chao Mei is the Chief Scientist at RayNeo, where he leads research in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) for AR wearable devices. He is a key contributor to the interaction experience design of RayNeo’s V3 series smart glasses and X3 Pro AR glasses. Dr. Mei is also an active member of the IEEE VR and 3DUI communities, serving as a Chair of the IEEE VR & 3DUI Contests. Prior to joining RayNeo, Dr. Mei worked at Meta Reality Labs, where he played a pivotal role in developing Meta’s Metaverse Engine and advancing its smart wearable product portfolio. His work included leading the design of 3D interaction systems for the Horizon platform and contributing to the development of the Avatars ecosystem. In academia, Dr. Mei is a recipient of a research grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) under the supervision of Dr. John Quarles, Director of the San Antonio Virtual Environment (SAVE) Lab. His research interests include Human-Computer Interaction, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Special Education, Educational Gaming, and Software Engineering. Dr. Mei also holds an M.B.A. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and serves on the program committees of several leading international conferences and journals in the XR field.
