SID Business Conference to Unpack Disruption in TV Technology and Business Models

Seoul, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, London, New Delhi, San Diego, Taipei, Tokyo -

The TV industry is undergoing a period of transition, with both display technologies and business models evolving rapidly. These developments will be the focus at the 2025 SID Business Conference, powered by Counterpoint Research and to be held from May 13 to 14 at the San Jose Convention Center. The conference will see industry executives reviewing the business landscape of the industry and highlighting new technologies driving premium TV products.

The speakers will include:

The TV session will commence on the Day 2 of the business conference on May 14. The session will bring together leading voices from across the TV value chain — from research and product development to platform innovation. Counterpoint’s Bob O’Brien will start the session with a review of the most recent data for the global TV market from a brand and technology perspective, highlighting the technology battle between LCD and OLED. He will also describe the changing business model of TV brands as streaming advertising revenue supplements hardware sales.

Roku’s Nangeroni will describe how reliance on streamed content is creating new challenges and opportunities for manufacturers seeking to deliver the best possible front-of-screen experience, for the lowest cost, and to the most people. Nangeroni will delve deeper into the macro trends driving this shift, the technical challenges it presents for the display industry, and the different ways Roku and others are applying software and hardware to overcome them.

Nanosys’ Luo will outline the essential ingredients of the full QD experience — and why it matters. He will also highlight how quantum dots are evolving beyond color, enabling new innovations in display architecture and unlocking broader opportunities for value creation across the TV ecosystem.

Edison Innovations’ Murphy will describe the success of the K2SiF6:Mn4+ (PFS/KSF) phosphor and outline the path forward around integration into future displays with higher color gamut (>90% BT.2020) and additional functionality (miniLEDs, remote films, microLEDs) versus current HDR 4K/8K displays.

The SID Business Conference takes place during Display Week and covers all the key market segments for displays, including smartphones, TVs, IT and automotive. The SID Business Conference is powered by Counterpoint Research and sponsored by Applied Materials, Coherent Laser Systems, Edison Innovations, InZiv, OTI Lumionics, Pixel-Flo, Smartkem, Tianma, Universal Display Corporation and VueReal.
