MiniLED Continues to Grow Steadily, Automotive and AI are Promising Highlights
La Jolla, CA -
- Total 2024 MiniLED total penetration rate is expected to be 2.3%.
- MiniLED penetration in automotive expected to reach 10% in 2026.
- AI adoption in the PC industry is expected to spur the demand of MiniLED notebook and monitor displays.
DSCC’s Quarterly MiniLED Backlight Technologies, Cost and Shipment Report revealed that MiniLEDs are playing an important role and serving as a strategic resource in both the display and LED industries. MiniLED shipments were 4.8M units in Q2’24 and are expected to decline slightly in Q3’24 due to weak demand from TV. Total shipments for MiniLED panels are expected to reach more than 19M units in 2024.
Highlights from the latest report include:
- The total penetration of MiniLED continues to steadily increase. Most key players are very aggressive in adopting MiniLED backlights to interior displays, especially in the automotive industry. MiniLED penetration is expected to reach 9.8% in automotive displays in 2026 and is expected to reach 13.1% in 2028.
- TCL and BenQ launched new MiniLED monitors in Q2’24. TCL released 27” and 34” 4k monitors embedded with 1,000+ dimming zones and 1,600 high brightness MiniLED backlights. BenQ also released a 32” 4k monitor embedded with 1,152 dimming zones and COB MiniLED design.
- AI will be adopted in the premium PC segment in the initial stage. Higher display costs are to be expected. Advanced IT displays, especially MiniLED, are expected to be widely used in AI PCs. Low power consumption & high picture quality are the ideal expectations of an AI PC. MiniLED displays can meet both of these two requirements simultaneously.
According to DSCC Analyst, Leo Liu, “Starting from the second quarter, MiniLED has effectively exited tablet applications. However, its growth in the monitor and TV markets has continued steadily. In notebooks, we expect the adoption of AI to boost the demand of MiniLED IT displays. MiniLED prospects in the automotive display market were previously seen as very promising. In addition to being used in displays, MiniLED can also be adopted in other applications such as headlights (ADB), taillights and graphic (Interactive) MiniLED displays.”
The latest Quarterly MiniLED Backlight Technologies, Cost and Shipment Report has been updated with the latest market dynamics and provides a comprehensive analysis on shipments, technology updates, the supply chain and forecast.
