FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 08/19/2024

AR/VR Display Forum Will Cover Advances in Micro OLED, Laser Beam Scanning, MicroLED and Holography

La Jolla, CA -

The AR/VR Display Forum is now six weeks away and 11 speakers have been confirmed. The final agenda, with more speakers, will be announced soon. Visit the DSCC event website to register and use code EARLY100 for a $100 discount (code is valid until August 28).

The event will take place on October 1st at the Fremont Marriott Silicon Valley. Sponsored by Applied Materials and OptoFidelity, this will be an opportunity to meet with experts and discuss the latest innovations in display technologies for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. If you wish to sponsor or exhibit, please contact us at [email protected] .

The following day, the DSCC/Counterpoint TECH Market Research Conference will offer another full day of presentations on the latest technology and market developments in the display industry. The registration page allows you to get a bundle for both events.

The AR/VR Display Forum aims to promote networking and foster collaboration. It will cover a range of display technologies, including Micro OLED, Laser Beam Scanning (LBS), MicroLED and holography.

Sidtek will talk about their recently launched 12” Micro OLED fab in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, China. This first phase of factory ramp-up will allow for 6000 wafers per month in tandem OLED configuration. Subsequent capacity upgrades will allow for double and triple of this capacity. Sidtek’s investment commitment in the 12” fab exceeds $826M and will expand on its existing 8” fab which has been in operation since 2020.

TriLite will present the unique characteristics of the software-defined Trixel 3 LBS display. The different optical components are combined to achieve the best optical performance in combination with the software and firmware to generate the unique signal patterns to recreate imagery from an electro-mechanical resonant system. This unique hardware/software combination is key for mass production without the need for extremely tight tolerances.

Advances in MicroLED displays will be covered by Mojo Vision, Q-Pixel and Saphlux. The latter has developed a solution based on Nano-Porous Quantum Dot (NPQD®) technology, which enables direct integration of red, green, and blue colors at the wafer level on low-cost blue LED substrates. Through electro-chemical etching, nanometer-sized pores are etched into gallium nitride material, in which quantum dot materials are then injected. Saphlux has developed a complete set of technologies from epitaxy to module, making it possible to mass-produce full-color MicroLED displays that are high-efficiency, low-cost, small-sized and highly reliable.

Belgian startup Swave Photonics will introduce its Holographic eXtended Reality (HXR) technology that enables holography in smart glasses. The pixel pitch on the light engine is only 250 nm, which allows the device to operate as a diffractive optical component. It is based on the same phase change material that was used in rewritable DVDs and semiconductor memory.

The conference will also cover enabling technologies such as waveguides and testing systems. For example, Cellid will present their super lightweight polymer waveguides that can display full color with a 1.0 mm thickness, a field of view (FOV) of 30 degrees and MTF equivalent to glass waveguides.

OptoFidelity will compare the Apple Vision Pro to various other HMDs and assess their performance based on key metrics such as photon-photon, motion-to-photon, and see-through latencies, as well as other image quality metrics. OptoFidelity will explain how these metrics can be measured using robotic platforms.
